Spearfishing Issue – Urgent!

I attended the Central Region Regional Advisory Council meeting tonight and an issue was mentioned to the council that will probably affect us. The spear-fishermen are requesting that they be allowed to “fish” under the same rules and regulations that we are. i.e. spearfishing 24/7, taking full limits of fish etc. If you are at all concerned about this I would suggest that you or someone from your club attend the RAC meetings. The next most important one is the Northern Region which is tomorrow night at 6:00 pm in the Brigham City Community Center which is located at 2400 North 300 West. This was not a scheduled agenda item and was presented by a couple of spear-fishermen. It will certainly come up at the Wildlife Board meeting the first of November.

Just a note: several fishermen saw an 8# plus Walleye at Starvation over the weekend that was speared and left. I have also heard numerous reports of spear-fishermen shooting bass several times a day to attempt to break the spearfish record for bass.

Thanks,

George
